“Godzilla’s Not A Dinosaur” Awarded Best of Venue at KC Fringe

My one-person spoken word comedy show Godzilla’s Not a Dinosaur took home “Best of Venue” at the 2023 KC Fringe Festival

What makes a show best of venue?

Best of Venue is awarded to the show that has the highest attendance. The Fringe volunteer staff waits until the show is about to start to count the people in the audience.

At the end of the festival, the show with the most people in the audience is awarded Best of Venue and given the opportunity to perform an extra show on the last day of the festival.

What is Godzilla’s Not a Dinosaur?

Godzilla’s Not A Dinosaur is a one-person show that I wrote and produced. The 50-minute show blends poetry and comedy to explore how we attempt to define the world around us, and the often hilarious consequences. From the mythologies of Godzilla and King Kong to the latest scientific discoveries about the universe, it’s an exploration of identity, gender, and how we navigate a world that often seeks to pigeonhole us into neat little boxes.

Artistic influences for my show include Neal Brennan’s 3 Mics and Hannah Gadsby’s Nanette

What is KC Fringe?

The KC Fringe is Kansas City’s largest celebration of arts and culture that showcases art from local, national, and internal performance and visual artists.

The Fringe theater tradition started at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in the 1960s and has continued to grow to an international presence.

KC Fringe Festival offerings are non-juried and non-censored. What does that mean? It means you get self-produced shows from artists that are non-traditional and experimental. A KC Fringe Show is likely to be something you’ve not seen anywhere else!

My next plans are taking the show on tour to other Midwest Fringe festivals and beyond.
