Let’s Create Together

Workshops in Poetry, Comedy, and Storytelling

Creativity

is For Everyone,

Any Age,

And Anywhere

Everyone has a story worth telling. Sometimes all they need is the right prompt, a little encouragement, and permission to write something imperfect.

When I teach workshops, I create a supportive and fun environment where participants feel free to explore, make mistakes, and create something new. Drawing on my experience as an award-winning poet, comedian, and teaching artist, I blend creative exploration with actionable techniques.

My workshops are designed to help people discover the joy of creativity while building practical skills they can use long after the session ends.

Topics

My workshops are primarily based in generative writing and creativity exercises.

I'd love to create an experience tailored to your audience. Take a peek at the workshops I have taught before or get in touch to discuss how we can build a workshop that's right for your event.

  • Introduction to Slam Poetry

  • Revision for Writing and Life

  • Re-Storying Your Journey

  • Stand-Up Comedy to Build Resilience

  • Creativity for Teams

  • How To Submit Your Poems for Publication

  • Performance Skills for Nonperformers

  • and more!

What to Expect

My workshops are built on the belief that poetry isn’t only for academics or professionals—it’s for anyone who wants to use language as a tool for reflection or play. Each session is designed to balance creativity with accessibility. A typical workshop includes:

  • Warm-up prompts to loosen up your creative muscles

  • Readings for inspiration from contemporary poets and comics

  • Reflection and discussion to spark new insights

  • Guided writing time with space to draft your own work

  • Group sharing for those who’d like to read aloud

There’s no homework, no pressure, and no wrong way to do it. Just a space to experiment, create, and grow.

Hi! I’m Abby

Before I was a performance artist, I worked as a literacy tutor in AmeriCorps and then a substitute teacher for a long time. Now I’m a marketing professional by day, but I’m a passionate creative 24/7.

I’ve taught workshops for kids, teens, and adults in schools, libraries, bars, parks, and more. I’m passionate about empowering people to tell and live better stories and I believe creativity is a skill that can be developed and honed.

When I’m not leading workshops or touring my award-winning comedy shows, you can find me in local KC coffee shops (shout out Cafe Corazon and PH Coffee House <3) writing about identity, pop culture, the Midwest, and the wonderfully messy experience of being human.
